Michigan just needs to do what Michigan does

One reason the Wolverines are so successful is that they are a talented team that is fundamentally sound. It’s great to be talented, but when you also don’t foul or turn the ball over, it makes you that much harder to beat.

All season long, Michigan basketball has excelled in limiting fouls and turnovers. Michigan is 14th in the country in fewest turnovers and has one of the lowest foul rates in the country.  Purdue averages four more turnovers and four more fouls per game than Michigan and if the Wolverines can maintain those numbers, it will be a huge help.

Winning the turnover battle will be a huge key, so will winning the battle of the boards. Overall, Michigan is a better rebounding team than Purdue, yet the Boilers are really good on the offensive glass, ranking 38th in the country in offensive rebounds.

Michigan doesn’t grab many offensive boards, however, the Wolverines are 44th in the nation on the defensive glass, so if UM can do its usual work on the boards and just keep that battle even, it will make it even tougher on Purdue.

Essentially, if Michigan can do the little things well that it normally does, Purdue will need a herculean effort from Edwards and from beyond the arc to win the game. Otherwise, Michigan should find a way.
