Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from Wolverines loss to Ohio State
Changes must be made
This is in no way suggesting that Jim Harbaugh should be fired, although it is worth asking if Jim is the man to get Michigan past Ohio State?
Michigan Wolverines
We keep talking about progress and how the Wolverines are getting closer and then we keep getting reminded that they aren’t. This is starting to feel like John Cooper but in reverse. I just hope we aren’t sitting here in five years talking about Harbaugh’s 1-8 record against Ohio State.
Harbaugh has turned Michigan around. That’s not up for debate. But can he get the Wolverines over the hump? I believe he can but some changes must be made, especially on offense.
Michigan football needs to get with it offensively. It has to fire Pep Hamilton and bring in a Don Brown type to run the offense. Kliff Kingsbury will be a popular name. Someone like that is desperately needed. The Wolverines want to play like its the 1980s, well it’s not.
The offense needs to learn how to win shootouts and how to score 50 points when the defense isn’t having its best day. In this new era of college football, great defense isn’t always going to be enough. With spread offenses and everything else, you have to be able to score in an elite fashion too and Michigan still hasn’t been able to do that under Harbaugh.
If the Wolverines are going to beat Ohio State and not just every once in a while, it needs to make some serious changes on offense. Harbaugh needs to give up play calling or this share of play calling and find the next great mind.
Or he just needs to get out of the stone age and realize old-school football isn’t always the answer. Michigan has tried winning as the tough guy and it hasn’t worked. Time to change tactics before it’s too late.
