Comparing the 2018 defense to 1997 was foolish

The reason you had to feel confident going into Saturday was the fact that Michigan football had what we thought was an all-time great defense. At least one of the great defenses the Wolverines have ever had.

Well, turns out we were terribly wrong on that front. This defense will not be remembered for anything other than the 62-point embarrassment that took place Saturday at the Horseshoe.

I love Chase Winovich, Devin Bush, Rashan Gary and all the rest, but no one is going to care about the revenge tour and no one will ever mention this defense as a great defense. At least they shouldn’t.

If you want to be considered a great defense at Michigan, you need to beat Ohio State. It really is that simple. This defense is good. It has been incredibly fun to watch and hopefully, it will redeem itself in the bowl game. But either way, it lost the chance to be remembered as something special.

Instead, it’s just another Ohio State victim.
