The Rutgers defense is as bad as the offense

While the defense has been dominating opponents all season long, the 42 points put up by the offense against Penn State last week might have been its best performance. Of course, 38 points against Wisconsin was solid too, but the point is, Shea Patterson and company are starting to hit their stride.

However, what makes this matchup so enticing for Michigan football, is Rutgers inability to even slow down the run. The Scarlet Knights are allowing 5.6 yards per carry and are 13th in the Big Ten in run defense. Michigan, on the other hand, is fourth in the conference in rushing yards with 217 per game and an average of five yards per rush attempt.

Karan Higdon will also be working on his eighth straight 100-yard game. Michigan is undefeated when he runs for 100 yards or more and with the way Rutgers plays defense, he could get that in the first quarter and then be done for the night.

Patterson will get his chances to throw, but he won’t really need to. Michigan should be able to just run the ball at will and it should be a good night for Higdon, Chris Evans and even Tru Wilson. Younger backs like Michael Barrett, Christian Turner and O’Maury Samuels should also see some carries. Regardless of who is running the ball though, Michigan will rush for a lot of yards.
