Charles Matthews becomes one of the Big Ten’s best players

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, but Matthews is going to be one of the top players in the Big Ten this season and he will be a First-Team All-Big Ten selection.

Last season, he showed just how valuable he could be and in the NCAA Tournament, he was easily the second-best player on the team. His ability to attack the basket, rebound and defend is really spectacular. His athleticism is off the charts too.

His shooting needs to improve, both from beyond the 3-point line and at the free throw line. He’s so good getting to the charity stripe, he needs to be better when he gets there than 55 percent, which is what he shot last season.

Matthews also made just 31 percent of his treys. If he can just shoot a little better, his average will go up, but considering he will get more attempts this season as the focal point, his average could jump 2-3 points. No doubt, he is one of the best two-way players in the Big Ten, maybe the country.
