Jim Harbaugh is the son of a football coach. That means that he moved around a lot during his youth, but also picked up some great habits. His father was actually a coach at the University of Michigan. When it came time to pick a school, he decided to come back to Ann Arbor to play his college ball.

Harbaugh saw very little action his first two years on campus, but once he got his chance, he certainly made the most of it. The signal caller got his first major action during the 1984 season. In his first collegiate start, Michigan beat the Miami Hurricanes, who were fresh off a national title the year before.

That would be the start of something special for Harbaugh, who led the team to a 10-1-1 record and a No. 2 final ranking in 1985. The following season, Harbaugh led Michigan to an 11-2 record, finished third in the Heisman Trophy balloting and was named the Most Valuable Player in the Big Ten Conference. The Chicago Bears made him their first-round pick in 1987. Harbaugh enjoyed a long NFL career, mostly notably as the Bears and Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback.

Currently, Harbaugh is back at his alma mater, serving as the program’s head coach. He has had his ups and downs since returning to Ann Arbor, but definitely has the program moving in the right direction. Maybe he can actually beat the Ohio State Buckeyes this season?
