Michigan Wolverines Football: 30 greatest players of all-time
By Brad Weiss
Denard Robinson was an absolute beast during his time at Michigan, making an instant impact as a freshman in 2009 and having one of the best careers in the history of the program. There was really nothing that Robinson could not do with a football in his hand, as he could beat you by throwing it, or carrying it 90-plus yards to the end zone.
Playing as the team’s backup quarterback in 2009, Robinson was still able to make his presence felt, displaying the kind of gifts that made him one of the biggest recruits in the country during his time in high school. With blazing speed and a rocket for a right arm, Robinson is all over the Wolverines record book. He is one of the more explosive players in Big Ten history.
Not only is he the only quarterback in FBS history to rush and throw for 1,500 yards in a single season, but he also holds the single season, game and career record for rushing yards by a quarterback. In only his second college start, he accounted for over 500 yards against the hated Notre Dame Fighting Irish, becoming an instant success at the school.
Robinson has the top-three single game rushing performances by a quarterback in Big Ten history, finishing his career with over 10,000 combined passing and rushing yards. He was electric every Saturday during his time at Michigan. Robinson was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, an All-American and the 2010 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
