Michigan Football: 3 areas where the Wolverines need to improve
Michigan football is unquestionably one of the best teams in the country right now, but there are still areas where the Wolverines need to improve.
Over the past few weeks, really since the season-opening loss to Notre Dame, Michigan football has been on a roll. The Wolverines have won seven straight games and their defense has been flat out dominating.
Holding Wisconsin and Michigan State, two, top-25 teams to a total of 376 yards in two games is extremely impressive. The offense has had its moments too, especially the running game, which racked up more than 500 yards combined in the wins over the Badgers and Spartans.
Outside of the struggles at Northwestern, Michigan football hasn’t really been challenged in the past seven weeks and with four games left on the schedule, the Wolverines look like legitimate contenders in the Big Ten and National Championship races.
Yet, with Penn State, Ohio State and the Big Ten West champion potentially ahead, the Wolverines still need to sharpen some things up if they are going to run the table and finish with just one loss.
Beating Michigan State and Wisconsin was gratifying, but taking down Penn State and more importantly, Ohio State, is going to be a different animal. The season-ending game with the Buckeyes looms large and could be a high-stakes matchup similar to the one we saw in 2016.
Michigan lost a heartbreaker on that day nearly two years ago and if they want to win it this time around, here are three areas that need some improvement.
