Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from domination of Michigan State
Shea Patterson becomes a hero
When you play at a school like Michigan, the way you perform in games against Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and the like are how you will be remembered.
For Patterson, his career didn’t get off to the greatest start against Notre Dame, but after the way he played Saturday against Michigan State, all should be forgiven. More than that, if he keeps this up, he’s going to become a Wolverines legend.
There were a few plays in particular that stood out, but none were more important than his 79-yard scoring strike to Peoples-Jones in the third quarter, breaking a 7-7 tie. The offense was just coming off another turnover and the momentum seemed to be in Michigan State’s favor.
But after another gutsy stop by the defense, Patterson delivered a perfect throw to Peoples-Jones, one that Michigan football fans will remember for the rest of their lives.
Overall, his 14-of-25 for 212 yards and two touchdowns wasn’t perfect, however, his touchdown to Nico Collins and his fourth-and-two run in the fourth quarter were two of the games biggest plays. It’s safe to say, if Patterson wasn’t the quarterback, Michigan might not have won this game.
