Wolverines will be in the Big Ten race all the way to the end

The win over Wisconsin was significant for a lot of reasons. For starters, Michigan just needed to prove it could beat a ranked team again; win a big game. It did that and in the process, put itself in a great position in the Big Ten race.

Michigan is 4-0 with five games left against Michigan State, Penn State, Indiana, Rutgers and Ohio State. The Buckeyes and Wolverines are undefeated in the league, Michigan State has one loss and Penn State has two.

That means Penn State is just about out. And since Michigan State lost to Northwestern, even if the Spartans beat the Wolverines, Michigan still has a good chance to play for the East Division crown in Columbus.

If Michigan beats Sparty, the Penn State game won’t even matter as much for the division race, cause even with a loss to the Nittany Lions, the Wolverines would control their own destiny with three games to go.

Yet, even if Michigan loses to the Spartans but beats Penn State, as long as Ohio State beats Michigan State, UM again would win the East with wins over Indiana, Rutgers and Ohio State.

Basically, Michigan has room for error in the Big Ten East. Split against Penn State and Michigan, and The Game will most likely be for the East Division. Win them both and Michigan will head to Ohio State right in the thick of the College Football Playoff conversation.
