Michigan is better at wide receiver and in the secondary

Make no mistake, Wisconsin is a solid team on both sides of the ball. The Badgers are the best offensive team the Wolverines have faced this season and Wisconsin has a solid defense, especially against the run.

Yet, the Badgers pass defense hasn’t been spectacular. The Badgers gave up 256 yards passing to Nathan Stanley, then 386 yards the next week to Adrian Martinez of Nebraska. Despite ranking 11th in the Big Ten in pass yards allowed, Wisconsin is still allowing just 16.4 points per game.

Michigan also has a great defense and leads the nation in total defense. Yet, when comparing their secondary to Wisconsin’s, the Wolverines have the edge with David Long, Lavert Hill and Brandon Watson.

Scott Nelson is a solid defensive back, but others such as Falon Hicks and Madison Cone are undersized, which could be something Michigan can take advantage of with Gentry, Peoples-Jones and Collins. Hitting big plays might determine the outcome and in that regard, you have to like Michigan’s chances more than Wisconsin.
