Rashan Gary’s presence will be needed

You never know what you are going to get from Jim Harbaugh in terms of injury news, but something that he said Monday on his radio show was pretty important and that was that Rashan Gary is going to play against Wisconsin.

Harbaugh was asked if Gary was going to play and he simply said yes. This is good news for a couple of reasons. One, Gary should be practicing all week if Harbaugh already knows he’s a go and two, he should be fairly healthy, which makes sitting him against Maryland look more like maintenance than a serious injury.

Gary’s apparent health also means he should be counted on heavily Saturday and whatever has been bothering him shouldn’t hinder him much. That’s good because to slow down Jonathan Taylor, the leading rusher in the Big Ten with 169 yards per game, Michigan football will need all hands on deck.

Gary is a great pass rusher, yet his ability to take up blockers on the line of scrimmage and set the edge against the run is going to be invaluable in this game.
