Power football is here to stay

If you look at the final rushing numbers for Michigan football on Saturday, they might not be eye-popping. However, considering the Terps boasted the 18th best run defense in the nation, then 171 yards on 43 carries and a touchdown isn’t so bad.

Coming into the game, Maryland was allowing just 2.6 yards per attempt. Yet, behind the stellar play of the offensive line, Michigan football averaged 4.3. Karan Higdon ran the ball 25 times for 104 yards. He didn’t score a touchdown, yet he did reach the 100-yard mark for the fourth straight game and the ninth time in his career. UM is 9-0 when Higdon gets over 100.

In terms of run defense, only Michigan State is better statistically than Maryland right now, so the fact that the Wolverines controlled the line of scrimmage is promising.

At the end of the day, fans may get sick of the conservative calls early but it looks like Harbaugh wants power football to be the identity of this offense and so far, it’s working. However, let’s check back after Wisconsin next week.
