Michigan Football: 3 things we learned in win over Northwestern
Patterson showed the clutch gene Saturday
When Patterson came to play for Michigan football it was to win games like this. Well, to a point. Obviously, Patterson came to beat teams like Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State, but without a quarterback like him, UM doesn’t escape Evanston with a win.
Needing a touchdown to take the lead in the fourth quarter, Patterson and the Wolverines responded with possibly their best drive of the season. Patterson opened with a nine-yard completion to Jared Wangler and then really got things cooking with a 13-yard dart to Zach Gentry that really was something special.
A scramble of nine yards for Patterson on a critical third-and-six was also huge. Two plays later, Patterson found Gentry to 22 yards and Higdon finished off the game-winning touchdown drive with a score from five yards out.
Patterson, who was 15-of-24 for 198 yards wasn’t perfect. But he didn’t have any turnovers, ran seven times for 31 yards and when his team needed points or needed a play, the transfer from Ole Miss found a way to make it. And now, it’s safe to say Michigan football found its quarterback.
