SMU backup William Brown led Mustangs to two touchdowns

After a pretty solid effort in the first half against SMU, the Michigan football defense had some issues once the Mustangs put in backup quarterback William Brown.

While there wasn’t enough time for it to matter, the Mustangs scored two touchdowns in the second half and moved the ball well under Brown, who ran for 48 yards and also threw for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The game was basically out of reach when SMU was putting points on the board but the defense also gave up a 55-yard touchdown in the first half. Two things this defense struggles with at times are allowing big plays and mobile quarterbacks.

Brown showed that yesterday. The Wolverines got pressure but were unable to corral him. Much of his rushing yards came on scrambles and two straight times in the red zone, the Mustangs punched it in. Not a major concern, with but mobile QB’s coming in against Nebraska, Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State, it’s something to be aware of.
