Michigan football should be able to dominate SMU and gain even more momentum heading into Big Ten play. Here are three keys to make it a reality.

Big Ten play will start soon enough for Michigan football, but before the Wolverines get there, SMU will come to the Big House this Saturday for one final tune-up.

After the domination of Western Michigan last week, the Wolverines seem primed for another beat down. Michigan football enters the game as a 34.5-point favorite and after the way SMU has opened the season, it’s no surprise.

The Mustangs, who were 7-5 a year ago, are 0-2 under new head coach Sonny Dykes and they aren’t just losing games, they are losing them ugly.

Through two contests, despite returning their starting quarterback from a season ago, SMU is averaging just 249 yards per game, which is not a positive sign heading into a game against one of college football’s best defenses.

The SMU defense hasn’t been much better, giving up 42 points last week and 46 to North Texas. The pass defense ranks 110th in the FBS and could set the stage for a huge game from Shea Patterson.

However, as bad as SMU has looked at times, it still had a 9-0 lead over 16th-ranked TCU last week. Crazier things have happened and the last thing Michigan football needs right now is a close game against a struggling team.

UM has momentum and in order to sustain it, the Wolverines need another dominant performance. That’s what we are all looking for and here are three keys for UM to make it happen once again.
