Michigan Football: 3 predictions for Wolverines against Notre Dame
Michigan’s defense will dominate but will it be enough?
There are certainly some things to be worried about with the Notre Dame offense, especially if running back Dexter Williams is in the lineup. The biggest concern though may be the legs of senior starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush.
Wimbush ran for more than 100 yards in four games last season and that’s exactly the kind of thing that could ruin the Wolverines’ night. However, I don’t think that will happen. Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich will help pressure and keep him in the pocket, while also helping stuff the run.
Notre Dame lost some really good players up front and even though UM lost Maurice Hurst, its loaded in the front seven. It wouldn’t be shocking to see someone like Devin Bush Jr. or Khaleke Hudson act as a spy of some sort because as long as Michigan can contain Winbush on the ground, it should have a good chance of holding the Irish in check.
Wimbush completed 49.5 percent of his passes last season and his backup Ian Book does throw it better, but pass defense is still a strength, particularly with David Long and Lavert Hill at corner. With that said, it’s hard to see Notre Dame scoring more than two or three times, meaning if the Irish want to win, they will have to do it with defense.
