Don Brown’s defense should dominate

One of the worst things about last season was how Michigan football truly squandered a dominating defensive unit. The Wolverines ranked 3rd in the FBS in yards allowed and were also 13th in scoring defense.

Those numbers are impressive. Only Penn State and Ohio State scored in the 30’s against Michigan and on top of that, only Indiana, Wisconsin and South Carolina reached the 20’s.

In today’s college football, that’s pretty impressive. But with so many big-time players returning, it’s just a start. In 2018, the defense could be even better. The pass rush will be insane with Gary and Chase Winovich. Solomon will have a breakout season and Bush, as well as Khaleke Hudson, Hill, Long, Josh Mettellus and Tyree Kinnell, ensure that UM is loaded on all three levels.

Don Brown is also a defensive genius. He will get the most out of this group and outside of Alabama, there may not be a better defense in college football next season than the Wolverines.

That will keep UM in every game. The difference from 2017, is now the Wolverines will have a quarterback that can finish.
