Who is winning at offensive tackle?

Another critical position battle Michigan football is undertaking right now is at both tackle spots. And unfortunately, since little reporting has been done, we don’t know much about how it’s going.

It looks like Cesar Ruiz has taken over at center. He will be flanked by Ben Bredeson and Mike Onwenu. Those are the three starting spots that appear to be safe at this point. However, outside at tackle, nothing is a given.

Grant Newsome, a former starter at left tackle, wasn’t cleared to practice in the spring, yet he could still be healthy by the fall. Outside of him, guys like James Hudson and Chuck Filiaga, along with Juwann Bushell-Beatty and Jon Runyan are all candidates to start.

It will be interesting to see how they hold up against guys like Chase Winovich and Rashan Gary. Hopefully they can, otherwise it might not matter who the quarterback is.
