Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from Wolverines run to Final Four
Beilein is now a legend
It’s amazing that a little over a year ago, some people were actually calling for Beilein’s head. Michigan was fresh off a tournament appearance in 2016 but lost after winning in the First Four to Notre Dame.

In the middle of last season, the Wolverines were squarely on the bubble. But then they went on and won the Big Ten Tournament and made the Sweet 16. This season, Michigan has picked up where it left off.
Michigan swept Michigan State, won a second consecutive Big Ten Tournament and got to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in six years. No team has been to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 more times than Michigan in the past six years. Add that to a pair of Big Ten Championships and an outright regular-season title in 2014 and it’s been an impressive run.
Obviously, Beilein and the Wolverines aren’t happy just to get to the Final Four, they want to win the National Championship. They certainly have a chance to do it. UM came into the tournament ranked seventh in both polls. Kenpom also has Michigan seventh.
This Michigan team might have the best defense in the country and with a bunch of shooters and skilled offensive players, there is no reason the Wolverines can’t win it all. But even if they don’t, Beilein has secured his place in history.
