Wagner has to play a feature role

In the first game and a half of the NCAA Tournament, Wagner was basically invisible. Wagner did have some impact in the second half against Montana, especially as a facilitator. But then, got into foul trouble against Houston and scored just two points.

In both games, Wagner had issues with fouls and it has plagued him all season. It’s probably his biggest weakness as a player. If you can’t stay on the floor, how valuable can you be?

Make no mistake, this Texas A&M team is legit and UM will need its best effort to win, that includes a big game from Wagner. With Johnson and two other guys that are 6-10, Michigan basketball needs to stretch the floor. That means Wagner needs to be active.

He also is going to need to find a way to score inside or from the block. The screen-and-roll has been a key part of Michigan’s offense, but the two key players, Wagner and Rahkman, have both struggled.

Wagner doesn’t need to play out of his mind, but he needs to play like the elite player he is capable of being. Something close to a double-double will do.
