Michigan Basketball beats Illinois: 3 takeaways from the Wolverines win
Michigan doesn’t have the depth it once thought at point guard
Zavier Simpson was finally back in the starting lineup for Michigan basketball against Illinois and even though he struggled with five turnovers, he played the entire second half.
It wasn’t Simpson’s greatest outing by any means. Yet, he did score five points, dished out seven assists and had two steals. He did a good job handing the ball and setting up teammates. Jaaron Simmons had two turnovers in limited action and Eli Brooks had one.
Neither Simmons and Brooks seemed to have the poise necessary to handle the Illini press. It was a bad day all around for Michigan when it came to taking care of the ball, as it had 15 turnovers, when it normally averages just over nine.
Essentially it means that Simpson and Rahkman are going to be the primary ball handlers. MAAR added four assists in the win and together, he and Simpson should be just fine.
