A Winovich return would make for a Merry Christmas

While the Michigan football program definitely needs Patterson to be able to play right away, another big decision looming for the Wolverines, is one coming up for Chase Winovich.

Obviously, the decision regarding Patterson’s status for next season will be made by the NCAA. But when it comes to Winovich and deciding on the NFL draft, it’s up to him.

The fourth-year Wolverine can come back for one season or after racking up 8.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss and earning All-Big Ten honors, he can head to the NFL. Winovich isn’t a guy that’s going to go in the first round, at least not yet. But with 13.5 career sacks and 26.5 TFL, he is probably a second or third round choice.

However, if he were to play one more season for Michigan football, he could push himself even farther up draft boards. Pass rushers are valuable and sometimes waiting an extra year is hard, but it worked out for Maurice Hurst and would help Winovich too.

So if Santa needs another gift idea for the Wolverines and coach Harbaugh, swaying Winovich to stay would be pretty much perfect.
