Tight end of the future

Obviously, it’s not a bold prediction to say that Mustapha Muhammad, the top Wolverines recruit, is going to be a star, but in this case, it’s just the simple truth.

There are a lot of reasons why the time is ripe for Muhammad to play for Michigan football. The quarterback play is going to be better and Harbaugh loves getting the football to his tight ends. Look at how much he used Jake Butt.

Michigan does have some good pass-catching tight ends on the roster, especially guys like Zach Gentry and Sean McKeon. But Muhammad brings something different and that’s what will allow him to make an impact right away for UM.

Muhammad is the kind of tight end you can build an offense around. He can split out wide, line up in the slot or on the line. He is probably a better blocker than he gets credit for and there is no question, he is among the elite receiving tight ends in the 2018 class.

His first season will be spent getting incremental playing time, but by the time he’s a sophomore, expect him to be an integral part of the offense.
