It’s always good to play on New Year’s Day

Like it or not, a big part of college football is image. And for the image of Michigan football, it would be good to play on New Year’s Day. Of course, it would be better to play in the Rose Bowl or the Sugar Bowl, but the Outback Bowl is still a game with some name recognition.

While most view the non-playoff games as meaningless, the Outback Bowl is still one of just five games played New Year’s Day, along with the Citrus, Rose, Sugar and Peach.

Yes, the Wolverines could be playing in a much more marquee game, but it could be a whole lot worse and hey, it’s much better than the Foster Farms Bowl right?

Winning the Outback Bowl isn’t a goal you have at the start of the season, but playing and hopefully winning in front of a national audience, against another solid program, would improve the terrible taste that exists in the mouth of every Michigan football fan right now. Probably the players and coaches too.
