Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from the Wolverines 2017 season
By Connor Boyer
Michigan football closed out the season in yet another disappointing loss. Here is a look back at 2017.
The Michigan football team closed out the 2017 regular season in familiar fashion. Disappointment.
2017 was a mostly frustrating year for the program, specifically from the fans perspective. Coming in to the season there was optimism around the team. With Michigan having a promising top ranked defense and returning starting quarterback Wilton Speight after his strong performance throughout 2016.
Michigan football also seemed to have a favorable schedule, playing at home against their two biggest rivals in Michigan State and Ohio State.
The optimism seemed justified after Michigan’s first game of the year against the Florida Gators. Michigan dominated and won what felt like a big win to kick off the season. However, time would tell the Florida team wasn’t all they were hyped up to be.
In fact as the year came to a close, Michigan would end the year without beating an opponent with a winning record. They had four chances to do so throughout the year, but came up short every time. The Wolverines also lost second-half leads in losses to both Wisconsin and Ohio State in the last two games of the season.
That was the story of the 2017 for Michigan football. 8-4 and without a win over one of the program’s key rivals. But it’s time to look forward, however before that, here is a look back at some key takeaways from this past season.
