Michigan football dominated Minnesota 33-10, keeping its hopes alive in the Big Ten East. Here are some key takeaways from the Wolverines win.

Things don’t always work out as planned and for Michigan football, that was the case Saturday night. The Wolverines had the start of their game against Minnesota delayed an hour, but it only delayed the inevitable.

When kickoff came, Michigan football owned the line of scrimmage and the game, pretty much from start to finish. On paper, the Gophers defense ranked fourth in the Big Ten against the run and fourth in scoring at just 18.8 allowed per game. It looked like a tough matchup, a game that could be a nail-biter.

It certainly didn’t seem like a game that would see the Wolverines break off three touchdown runs of 60 yards or more. But in college football, you never really get what you expect.

Karan Higdon and Chris Evans combined for 391 rushing yards. Brandon Peters threw for just 56 yards and Michigan football won by 23. UM is now 7-2 on the season and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Crazy enough, the Wolverines have slim hopes now in the Big Ten East.

Michigan State beating Penn State created the possibility of a four-way tie. If Ohio State knocks off Michigan State next week, but the Wolverines win out, including a win over the Buckeyes, all four teams could be 7-2. Who knows how that tiebreaker would be decided, but it’s fun to think about.

Regardless, Michigan football is getting better and few teams will want to play it this November. That’s one takeaway, here are three more.
