Michigan Football vs Indiana: Breaking down the Hoosiers
What to watch when Indiana has the ball
This Indiana offense will be a different animal than Michigan football has faced so far this season. In its previous five outings, Michigan has faced mostly run-based offenses. That won’t be the case Saturday.
The Hoosiers want to throw the football and they want to run a lot of plays. This will be the Wolverines first real experience against an up-tempo offense, so we’ll see how UM responds.
Indiana is scoring just 29.6 PPG, but is averaging 408 yards per game, which is fourth in the Big Ten. Richard Lagow started the season at QB for Indiana, but the Hoosiers made the change to Peyton Ramsey recently and he will start against Michigan football.
Ramsey is completing 68.5 percent of his passes this season, while throwing for 637 yards, six touchdown passes and two interceptions. His play has helped Indiana build the fifth-best pass offense in the conference (259 YPG), but the receivers help too.
Simmie Cobbs has been solid, catching 33 passes for for 370 yards and three touchdowns, but Ian Thomas, who has 254 yards receiving is another solid threat. On the ground, Morgan Ellison is the top threat, racking up 358 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 5.2 yards per carry.
The offense is pretty good, the defense for the Hoosiers isn’t, here’s a look at when Michigan has the ball.
