Getting 11 players picked in the NFL draft might be taking its toll

At the start of the season, expectations were high for Michigan football, but they were still a little tempered. Yet, after beating Florida, many expected the Wolverines to be as good as they were a season ago, unfortunately, they aren’t.

If we didn’t realize that against Air Force or Purdue, we did against Michigan State. This Michigan team is good. It could be very good, but right now, especially on offense, it’s young and it’s raw.

Last year’s team had Jake Butt, Amara Darboh and Jehu Chesson. Tarik Black looked like the breakout guy this season, but then he got hurt and Donovan Peoples-Jones, the No. 1 freshman wide receiver in the country, hasn’t lived up to expectations.

The Wolverines also don’t have a dynamic quarterback, although Dylan McCaffrey could be that in the future, he can’t do anything now. Prior to that opening game, many thought Michigan football would win between 8-10 games and right now, that still holds true.

This year was supposed to be a reloading year. The talent is there to win, but as we saw last Saturday night, some of it still needs to be developed.

Make no mistake, Michigan is one of the best 15-20 teams in the nation and by season’s end, it could be even better. However, at this point, it’s way too early to panic.
