The defense is still good enough to win a lot of games

There is no doubt that Michigan State deserved to win that game last Saturday. They were more prepared, more emotional and just more ready. The Wolverines looked flat and turned it over five times; they were the more talented team, but they didn’t play like it, until it was too late.

The Michigan defense especially has to feel that way. After allowing 14 points and more than 100 yards rushing in the first half to the Spartans, Michigan football clamped down. MSU managed just 252 total yards and on most nights, holding your opponent to 14 points will get you the win.

When you consider the five giveaways by the Michigan offense, that number is even more impressive. Michigan State had just 94 yards passing and finished with only 13 first downs.

Unfortunately, you need a good offense to beat some of the truly elite teams in college football, but with this defense, Michigan football can beat or hang with just about anybody.

Nobody has scored 20 points yet against the Michigan defense, which allows just 13.9 (2nd in the Big Ten) and seeing as the Wolverines are allowing just 213 yards per game, it doesn’t seem likely that will change anytime soon.

So stop freaking out people, with a defense this dominating, things can’t get that bad, can they?
