Speight finally has his breakout game

When evaluating the performance of Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight, it would be more than fair to say that he has been underwhelming. Yet, this week against Air Force seems like a good time to finally get on track.

If you look just at the stats of the Air Force defense, Michigan football fans might have reason to worry. Air Force allowed just 55 yards rushing and 40 passing, ranking them in the top 10 in each category.

But again that was against VMI. For a lot of reasons, Speight has been shaky so far this season, but the turnovers are the biggest thing that needs to be fixed. That along with a 51.9 completion percentage.

That number is nearly 10 percentage points lower than it was a season ago. So Speight can be accurate and in my view, the coaching staff will use this game as a confidence builder.

With Tarik Black, Grant Perry, Kekoa Crawford and a slew of talented tight ends, Speight should have plenty of open targets, he just needs to be confident and hit them.
