Michigan football continues to do well on the recruiting trail as the Wolverines got a commitment from 2019 offensive tackle Nolan Rumler Saturday.

Getting a commit from a four-star offensive lineman is always a good thing. But for Michigan football, when that player comes from the state of Ohio, it makes it even better.

And with the addition of offensive lineman Nolan Rumler, the fifth-ranked player in Ohio for 2019, Michigan football has to be feeling pretty good.

Not only do the Wolverines get a talented offensive tackle in Rumler, who is ranked No. 123 nationally by 247 sports, but they also snagged a talented player from their arch rivals backyard.

Rumler announced his decision Saturday via twitter. Notre Dame and Alabama were the other teams also in his top 3.

As you can see from the twitter pictures, Rumler appears to have been a fan of Michigan at a young age. He confirmed as much as recently to Matt Wenzel of MLive, meaning UM had a built in advantage.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Rumler is a nice addition, especially as someone that still has room to grow both literally and figuratively.

Rumler is already 6-4 and weighs 290. But by the time he gets to Michigan football, one would expect him to be even bigger, maybe even taller.

The offensive lineman is just the second commit of the 2019 class, but adds to a string of strong recruits along the offensive line in recent years. The 2017 recruiting class had five 4-star offensive lineman, while the 2018 class already has three, including one of the top guards in the country.

Michigan wants to be a physical football team and wants to be able to run the ball at will against opponents. Well building a tough offensive line is the way to do it and Rumler helps secure that for the future.

Also you know Jim Harbaugh loves to get a guy Urban Meyer probably should have gotten. And, we all know Michigan is doing well when it gets recruits in Ohio. So any way you look at, getting Rumler was a big positive.

It’s probably too early to examine where he ultimately fits in, but it’s safe to say the Wolverines are getting a good player and considering he’s from Ohio, it’s good news all around.
