Starter: Tyrone Wheatley

It’s not a bold prediction or anything. But Wheatley seems the most ready to take over the starting job next season.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he will play an overwhelming majority of snaps. Tight end isn’t a position that lends itself to that and furthermore, there is a more talent behind him.

Harbaugh likes to use tight ends, not only to split out but to block and getting physical on the line of scrimmage is Wheatley’s specialty.

The son of the former Michigan football star did catch three passes for 35 yards last season and scored one touchdown. But he’s not a speed demon, he’s an old-school in-line blocker and he will be put to good use this season.

It’s hard to see him catching a ton of passes, my guess is around 20 or so, but he will find a way to impact the game in plenty of other ways.
