Starter: Wilton Speight

Peters and O’Korn will certainly mount a challenge to Speight this fall, but at the end of the day, it’s hard to see either surpassing him.

The 6-6 signal caller had his moments in 2016 as the starting quarterback, but he also had some struggles too. Yet, if he had thrown one less interception against Ohio State, Michigan football might have won the Big Ten championship and qualified for the College Football Playoff.

However, last season, Speight wasn’t expected to do much. He had a dominant defense on the other side of the ball and an offense, filled with playmakers.

There is certainly some talent left over, but there are questions at wide receiver and along the offensive line, so the pressure will be on whoever the starting quarterback is, to produce and be more than a game manager.

Speight showed against Ohio State that he is capable of big plays and clutch throws. He just needs to find more consistency, which I believe he will. It’s also why I believe he will be starting under center against Florida.
