Michigan Football: 5 Most Important Wolverines for the 2017 Season
Rashan Gary could be Michigan’s next great d-lineman.
A great running game is normally one ingredient for championship football teams in college football, another is a great defensive line. And for Michigan football to be great next season, Rashan Gary is going to need a breakout season.
Gary, who played mostly defensive end last season, as well as some at defensive tackle, had an effective freshman season.
The top overall defensive recruit from 2016, played in 12 of 13 games and finished with 23 tackles, five TFL and one sack.
At the end of the season, even though his snaps were limited on a deep d-line, Gary held up well against the run and generated decent pressure on the quarterback.
Many times, I wondered why Gary wasn’t playing more in 2016. So the idea of him breaking out for an All-Big Ten type of season doesn’t seem far fetched.
Gary easily has the talent to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft in a couple years and it would help Michigan immensely if he started to realize that potential in 2017.
