It’s been a great recruiting week for Michigan football’s 2017 class, and it continued Thursday night with the commitment of linebacker Jordan Anthony.

Thursday evening saw yet another high-end 2017 prospect choose Michigan football. This time it was four-star linebacker Jordan Anthony (Bradenton, Florida).

Anthony, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 12 outside linebacker in the class and the No. 28 prospect in the state of Florida, was considered a pretty strong Michigan lean before officially choosing the Wolverines, via Twitter, on Thursday.

It was another done-up video announcement, for those who are into that sort of thing.

It’s worth noting that Anthony’s 247Sports Composite rankings and ratings are considerably higher than what 247Sports gives him. (Composite rankings/ratings are a combination of major recruiting services’ evaluations.) The Composite rankings list Anthony as the No. 6 outside linebacker in the 2017 class and the No. 21 prospect in Florida.

According to Mike Farrell, National Recruiting Director for Rivals.com, the Wolverines are getting “a bad man” with Anthony.

It’s worth noting that Rivals lists Anthony as a five-star inside linebacker.

By choosing Michigan, Anthony passed up the likes of Auburn, Oklahoma, Penn State and Maryland.

Michigan’s 2017 class, which was ranked No. 4 by 247Sports before the commitment, got a slight bump, though it wasn’t enough to pass No. 3 Georgia.

One of the exciting things about Anthony is that he’s a true hybrid linebacker and will likely be able to line up at either inside or outside linebacker, and he could also possibly slide out to the nickel position for coverage.

“I think he is a very, very good athlete,” said IMG Academy coach Kevin Wright.

“There’s a lot of versatility. I think they see him as an inside, outside guy at linebacker. The problem that people have in college, you really got depending on who you’re playing, guys that are physical enough to play in the box yet when you get spread out can’t play outside the box. I think he has the potential to do both of those things.”

What also makes him stand out is that he played well on both sides of the ball in high school, getting carries at running back.

Combine his versatility with a hard-hitting style and lightning quickness—he ran a laser-timed 4.7 in the 40-yard dash—and maybe he starts reminding you of someone like Jabrill Peppers.
