Trey Burke, Washington Wizards

Trey Burke should need no introduction to Michigan fans. The fan base went into a panic when Darius Morris left for the NBA.  All of a sudden, a little known recruit from Ohio steps onto the stage and leads Michigan to a 24-10 record and a conference championship. However, Michigan would lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Ohio.

Fast forward a year, and Burke comes back to lead a heralded group of freshman to the Final Four. Burke was named the Naismith player of the Year, and he made his impact felt in every game. From the steal against Michigan State to the Shot against Kansas, Burke was on everybody’s radar as a first rounder.

The hometown Pistons passed on the opportunity to take the Michigan point guard, and he fell to the Utah Jazz.

Burke had a strong rookie year, averaging 13 points and 6 assists a game as a starter. However, his next few years saw a decline in and play. The Jazz took combo guard Dante Exum the following draft, and his development interfered with Burke’s playing time. Burke lost his starting role last year, and was shipped to the Wizards after the Jazz signed George Hill.

Now John Wall’s understudy, Burke is averaging less minutes than he ever has in his career. He had eight on Saturday in a loss to the Spurs. This is the second most Burke has scored all season, with an 18 point outburst at Boston earlier in the month. To see a shot deeper than the one against Kansas, click below.
