The Michigan defense will play with a chip on its shoulder

Last week’s 23 points given up to Michigan State was the second-highest total allowed by the Wolverines this season. And trust me, they aren’t happy about it.

After surrendering 28 points to Colorado in the third game of the season, Michigan gave up just 25 points in its next four games and that included wins over a pair of top-12 teams in Penn State and Wisconsin.

I would expect the Michigan defense to respond in a similar fashion this week. I highly doubt they enjoyed allowing the Spartans to run for more than 200 yards. And Maryland provides a great opportunity for a show of strength.

If the Wolverines can handle the run, the Terps are in big trouble, because their passing game is suspect and UM probably covers as well as any team in the country.

Whether it plays up to its standards or not, I expect the Michigan defense to play with some fire this week, looking to prove once again, why it’s one of the best defenses in all of college football.
