Michigan basketball is going to go on without one of its leaders on the court. Here’s where Spike Albrecht will be missed the most.

It was announced Friday morning that Michigan senior point guard Spike Albrecht will be stepping away from the game because of injury issues.

Albrecht had two hip surgeries this past offseason and hasn’t been able to fully come back since.

“This has been the toughest decision I have ever had to make,” said Albrecht, via a press release. “After taking a hard look at what is best for me, and this team, I will be stepping away from the game that has meant so much to me.

“I am so thankful for what Coach Beilein, the assistants and the medical staff have done for me during my career and in particular over the last year while I was dealing with this injury. I just have a little more to go and I really need to take the proper time to finish my rehab.”

Albrecht participated in 115 games for the Wolverines, finishing his career with 3.9 points per game and 2 assists per game.

Usually when a player who didn’t even average 4 points per game retires, we wouldn’t bat an eye. But Albrecht was clearly more to this team than the numbers he produced.

Between his flashy passing, sharp shooting from deep and tremendous passion on the court, Albrecht was often the brightest flame burning for the Wolverines.

Here’s where Michigan is going to miss him the most.
