Michigan’s wide receivers have been faced with a unique challenge this season. They have to find ways to be productive in an offense that runs first, and with a quarterback who doesn’t excel at anything beyond 10-15 yards.
It’s a lot of running after the catch and some jet-sweeps that put Jehu Chesson on this list of standouts. Well, those things and his kickoff return against Northwestern.
Chesson is Michigan’s fastest player. So what do you do with all that speed? Find ways to get him the ball in space and see what he can do.
The Wolverines aren’t shying away from jet-sweeps because he’s scored off that play twice already this season.
Michigan, although not as much lately, also likes to throw those quick-hitters when one-on-one opportunities are present.
Taking advantage of those looks, as well as everything that’s more traditional, is why Chesson can remain a dangerous threat within an offense that has a hard time featuring receivers (which is OK).
I’m hoping to see a lot more of the same from Chesson in the second half of the season.
