Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Victor Viramontes 2016 Commit Profile
GBMWolverine Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recent verbal commitment Victor Viramontes.
Victor Viramontes, from Norco High School in California, committed to Michigan. He is listed as both an athlete and a dual-threat quarterback. His offer list is a decent resume, although it is not perfectly clear as to which schools are offering him as quarterback and which as an athlete that could play another position at the next level.
Victor’s offer list is comprised of programs that highly value athletic dual-threat quarterbacks, such as Nebraska and Georgia Tech. Immediately, with the six-month tidal wave of quarterback talent coming to Michigan, the obvious question becomes: can Victor really beat out that collective group? Certainly not in the immediate future, but with hard work, tenacity, and some possible attrition, the short answer becomes the infamous maybe.
But quarterback is not the end all of Victor Viramontes’ prospects for playing time at Michigan. He is solidly built and tough, somewhat in the mold of Alex Malone. The size equation is similar as well. Alex’ best shot is quarterback; with Victor the final determination is and will be in limbo.

Victor piled up some big statistics in his junior year, rushing and throwing for over 3500 yards. He is in the 210-215 pound range and has the speed and cutting ability to be a threat. His arm strength is also worthy of the college level. With his speed, size and overall ability, a combination of what many call a football player, Victor could be used on both sides of the ball at various spots. He should benefit from a staff that values versatility and is not afraid to think outside the box.
Victor rolls out very well. But with his ability to easily beat high school opposition, he vacates the pocket or takes off early on the rollout.
One thing for sure, Victor is a pretty good athlete and that appears to be the starting point for Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Note:
Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.
Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.
GBMWolverine Rankings:
10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.
We have him at 6 1/2 to 7 footballs.
Side Note:
Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Overview:
Victor is a tough and physical high school quarterback and safety. He also worked at linebacker in 7 on 7 camps. He threw for almost 1800 yards with 18 touchdowns and rushed for another 1750 yards and 17 touchdowns. Victor is a better runner at this point as supported by being named All Southern California as a running back. No grade point average was listed.
Strengths:
Victor is a solid, versatile athlete who plays the game with passion and fire. He is fearless running the ball. Film over his last two seasons shows improvement in his throwing and accuracy. He has developed a nice touch to his passes to go with a strong arm. He can show touch for distance and zip the short passes.
Concerns/Needs Work:
Victor will need to shorten up his throwing motion, he really long-arms the throw and takes it way back. He also has a habit of getting a bit cute when running the ball and has had fumbling problems. Victor runs a bit stiff and needs to loosen up some. He does lack the ideal height, but not every athlete is 6’4”.
Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year.
Victor Viramontes reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — Tate Forcier — who played Quarterback. That is the only name we at GBMWolverine really thinks fits, due to his unorthodox scrambling.
