Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Dytarious Johnson 2016 Commit Profile

GBMWolverine Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan recent verbal commitment Dytarious Johnson.

Another satellite camp, another Michigan offer, and another smart guy who quickly said, “You bet!” Michigan received another commitment this week from a now familiar setting, Prattville, Alabama High School. Dytarious is a linebacker, one that is athletic, but undersized and unheralded. That could change with a good senior year.

This offer did not exactly come out of nowhere, but- the stars are not good and his size is underwhelming. The film is not bad. So, continue reading below.

Note:

Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.

Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.

GBMWolverine Rankings:

10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.

We have him at 6 1/2 footballs.

Side Note:

Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Overview:

Dytarious is an uber-athletic linebacker from one of Alabama’s top programs. He recorded 82 tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery. Dytarious returned the interception for a touchdown. No GPA was listed. A majority of the recruiting outlets see Johnson as either an outside linebacker or strong safety. We would not be surprised if after time in the weight room, Johnson ends as the type of athletic Mike that teams crave. His speed and athleticism should also be able to help on special teams.

Strengths:

Dytarious runs very well, shows a good burst, and possesses excellent closing speed. He shows a physical aptitude and is a solid tackler, running through ball carriers and finishing his tackles. Dytarious does a great job in coverage and coming off receivers to make tackles. He is good in pursuit and takes solid angles.

Concerns/Needs Work:

Dytarious will need to improve some of his fundamentals. His stance is too upright; he has a habit of not taking his read steps, and too many times stands flat-footed. Dytarious also needs to learn to use his hands to reroute and take on blockers and will obviously need to add quality weight and strength.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year.

Michigan currently has ten recruits committed at this time with Erik Swenson (OL), Dele Harding (LB), Brandon Peters (QB), David Reese (FB/LB), Kingston Davis (FB), Matt Falcon (RB), Michael Onwenu (OL), Kiante Enis (RB/Slot/ST’s), Chris Evans (Slot, RB, WR, CB, or ST’s), and Dytarious Johnson (LB).
