Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Shea Patterson (QB) 2016 Prospect

Shea Patterson, a 2016 quarterback prospect from Shreveport, Louisiana and plays for Calvary Academy high school and has some interest in Michigan right now, but don’t look to be the favorite or for that matter a likely place to visit with the situation that presents itself for Michigan right now with their two leading candidates appearing to visit this spring in K.J. Costello and Brandon Peters.

He is also planning on making his announcement next week so that pretty much puts Michigan looking on the outside for this prospect, but we wouldn’t worry to much about it at this time.

Shea was offered by the former coaching staff in Doug Nussmeier along with the current Michigan coaching staff. The Michigan offer has become Patterson’s twenty-fifth scholarship offer so far for his 2016 recruiting class.

Shea seems to be favoring several SEC programs right now and likely will decide between those schools in the south for his services, but he might just take a trip north or west just to get a different take on a program. Like they say “Anything can happen in recruiting especially if you get them on campus”.

We would assume right now that LSU, Ole Miss, and USC lead for his services.

Talking with Rivals, it seems that Shea Patterson does have some distant connections to Michigan and the football program.

“The ultimate goal is to get to the NFL so the best offense that will get me there will be the one for me,” Patterson said.

So far this off-season, the only unofficial visit Patterson has planned is to a function at LSU. Others could definitely take place. Asked if Michigan could get involved in his recruitment now that Jim Harbaugh was hired, the five-star quarterback seemed open to the idea.

“Definitely,” Patterson said. “My family and all my distant roots are from Michigan and Ohio. My family had season tickets there. Any time you can play for a coach who was in the NFL and is coaching in college and you have the potential to play there that’s great.”

Patterson said he would like to have his commitment made before the start of his senior season.

CoachBT’s Comments:

Polished quarterback who makes all the throws. Above average arm strength despite less than ideal size. Moves well in the pocket and is accurate in the pocket or on the move. Nice tight spiral and catch-able ball. Throws one of the best long passes of any quarterback in the class.

  • The 2016 recruiting class will be a lot bigger than the previous couple years of recruiting at Michigan which will be a good thing for Jim Harbaugh and staff to start bringing in their own players that they want to build around this Michigan program.

As of right now we have a total of 18 scholarships that will likely be handed out to the 2016 recruiting class, but we imagen this number will gradually go up with players transferring or deciding to leave Michigan.

So far, the 2016 recruiting class has Erik Swenson (OL) and Dele Harding (LB) in the class.
