Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Dele Harding 2016 Commit (LB) Profile

GBMWolverine Readers: Here is a overview of University of Michigan verbal commitment Dele Harding.

Now that 2015 recruiting is all over and the letters of intent are all signed we move on to 2016 recruiting. Dele Harding actually comes from a very good program that recently has sent Michigan two players in the name of Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson from the 2014 recruiting class.

Most will see this as a weird timing for a commit, especially a 2016 recruit when he committed to Brady Hoke on 10/31/14, but this just might be the case where a recruit picked a school over a coach or wanted to go to the same school as his friends chose. Maybe when he visited in the past he just fell in love with the place or maybe he is a little worried if something happens to this coaching staff that he might lose his scholarship offer whenever a new coach comes in.

We really don’t know and at this point is just one of those things that doesn’t really matter at this time because the 2016 recruiting class is along ways from signing their letter of intent.

Don’t take “Stars” into account with some of these recruits because they don’t have a lot of game film or haven’t been out on the recruiting circuits such as camps, combines, 7on7’s, etc… Remember that Freddy Canteen was a low 4-star/high 3-star recruit and is playing as a true freshman at Michigan this past season.

Rankings:

24/7: 3-star.
ESPN: 3-star.
Rivals: 4-star.
Scout: 3-star.

Note: Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.

Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.

GBMWolverine Rankings:
.

10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.

We have him at 7 1/2 footballs.

Side Note:

Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

  • Overview:

Dele Harding plays for one of top prep schools on the east coast, Eastern Christian. He has played fullback and linebacker this season. We, and most others, believe Dele ends up at Mike linebacker at Michigan. Dele recorded 67 tackles with two for loss as a sophomore and he played very against one of the top football programs in the country, Houston Trinity. No GPA has been reported.

Dele is not the tall, ultra fast, perfect specimen, but he is a good player. He can best be described as a junior who is in the high three star, low four star range. But keep in mind Dele is a junior.

    Strengths:

Dele plays a hard-hitting, physical style of football. He is a good tackler in tight quarters and also in space. Dele moves his feet very well for 220+ lbs. He shows an ability to cover the flats and run with tight ends down the seams. Of note is Dele is fearless in his fills.

    Concerns/Needs Work:

Dele needs to improve his lateral quickness and change of direction. He also needs to use his hands better and be stronger at shedding blocks.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year especially with some of the talent on the roster and some of them haven’t seen much action yet.

Dele reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Michigan Football Player — David Harris — who played Linebacker.

    Final Thoughts:

We welcome Dele Harding to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
