Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Keith Washington (DB) — Profile

GBMWolverine Readers: Here is an overview of recently signed commit Keith Washington.

Keith Washington shocked a lot of people when his family had a Michigan banner underneath the Cal banner that he was committed too. Keith made the tenth commit at that time to sign with Michigan with several other surprises that followed. Washington was a Cal commit so you know grades aren’t an issue along with having offers from schools like Duke, Northwestern, and Rice.

Keith never visited Michigan, but both parties are taking a leap and hoping it works out for the best which could mean a boom or bust type of situation. If he doesn’t work out on the defensive side of the ball he could be used as a wildcat, running back, or slot receiver. Washington will officially enroll this summer most likely as soon as he graduates high school and start taking summer classes and taking part of summer work-outs preparing himself before fall camp starts.

We have him at 7 1/2 to 8 footballs right now.

Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Overview:

Keith Washington is a super athlete with skills to help on either side of the ball. He will more than likely start on defense where he could play either safety or corner. But he was as a duel threat quarterback in high school where he rushed for 1200 yards and threw for another 1700, accounted for 37 touchdowns.

Strengths:

Keith moves fluidly and is silky smooth. He has good length and has long arms. Film shows not only good speed, but also excellent quick feet and overall quickness. He changes levels well and has good burst and closing speed. Highlights show decent wrap up tackling.

Concerns/Needs Work:

Keith obviously needs to add weight and get stronger. He must get better at using his hands and shedding blocks. He has played mostly offense, so a lack of experience will also be a factor. He is far from a project but is in need of solid coaching.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?
