Michigan Football Recruiting: Roquan Smith Could Still be a Wolverine
By David Cuff
Roquan Smith interested in Michigan Football
Michigan put together a solid recruiting class considering the small time frame they had to work with. When Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach, Michigan only had six recruits. They found a way to add eight more during the last month of recruiting and are content with the class they put together. One thing Michigan was unable to do, however, was add one of their big time recruiting targets on National Signing Day. That may be changing with Roquan Smith.

Yesterday, Smith announced that he would be going to UCLA. It was a big addition for UCLA and one of many they were able to get Wednesday. The only problem is, Smith never sent in his LOI. The reason he didn’t is that reports were coming in that UCLA defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich could be leaving for the NFL to join the Atlanta Falcons staff. Today, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports has reported that Ulbrich is indeed leaving for Atlanta. Ulbrich was the one who recruited Smith and without him Smith has decided to take a couple more days to think about his decision.
Michigan Wolverines
Smith’s high school coach was quoted saying that Georgia, Michigan, and Texas A&M are back in the race to get Smith along with UCLA. Smith is the 29
th
rated overall recruit according to ESPN. He is a 6-foot-2, 204 pound linebacker with a lot of ability. All of the tools are there for Smith to become an elite linebacker and the only thing he really needs is to add some more bulk to his frame. With a little added size and strength, the sky is the limit for Smith.
Roquan Smith would be a huge addition for Michigan if they can land him. He would immediately become the top recruit in their 2015 class. His home states Georgia Bulldogs likely have the best chance of getting him from UCLA, but Michigan will be right there with them. It’ll be an interesting next couple of days.
