GBMWolverine Readers: Here is an overview of recently signed commit Grant Perry.

The Game of Who’s There continued with the “non-commitment” of one west coast wide receiver and then an offer being extended to a local teammate of Alex Malzone. Grant Perry, the now committed future Wolverine is also a moderate three star receiver who did not secure any big time offers. But Northwestern cane the picture and Perry committed to Northwestern. Then at the last hour Michigan came a calling, and that was that.

There may be moans and groans. There will be academic, pretty much meaningless discussions about the what ifs of a few days ago. But Grant Perry gets his chance.

Two things stood out after watching Perry’s film: (1) he does a lot of things decent and nothing spectacular; he catches a lot of footballs, and any time that happens a player is doing something right. He will not set the world on fire at the next level going deep, but Perry may just be a little deceptive in his speed.

Brother Rice is an excellent preparation school, and obviously good enough (academics) for Northwestern says by common sense good enough for Michigan.

The obvious comparison is Roy Roundtree, who was about 5’ 11, but more slender when he came to Michigan. It took Roundtree a couple of years to contribute. But he ran routes and caught the ball, just like Perry.

Could raise his game up a lot if he can get into the weight room his first year and gain the needed strength his first year.

Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Overview:

Grant Perry played for one of the top programs in the state of Michigan helping Birmingham Brother Rice to a state championship as a junior. He caught an amazing 105 passes as a senior with 20 touchdowns. He will more than likely play the slot at Michigan. With his superior hands, Perry could also help on punt returns. As mentioned, he is a good student with a reported 3.7 GPA at a top prep school.

Strengths:

Grant Perry is a classic chain moving slot. He shows super hands and above average foot quickness. Perry is fundamentally sound and runs excellent, disciplined routes. Grant plays hard and shows a competitive nature. He uses his quickness to gain separation.

Concerns/Needs Work:

Perry will need to add some weight and get stronger. To see the field Perry will also need to improve his agility, acceleration, and explosiveness. Now before the gloom and doom sinks in, Perry is not that far off and has a shot.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year.
