Michigan Wolverine Tidbits: Thoughts Before Signing Day

It seems that many Michigan fans on many boards are getting anxious about Michigan recruiting. Some thought when Jim Harbaugh was hired it would immediately upgrade our recruiting potential and I believe eventually it will.

But, recruiting is not the reason Michigan has suffered in its football program for the past decade. And I support, there is sufficient talent already at Michigan now to compete in the Big 10.

In today’s college football, teams like Michigan, powers in the past, but a northern based school whose home state is average at best when you consider the number of top players available simply must have a high percentage of its top recruits do.

Michigan cannot afford to have a talent like Kyle Kalis take four years to develop.
Michigan cannot afford to have an athlete like Dymonte Thomas go into his third year and still no answer to where he fits it.

I could go on.

Michigan just has not developed players in the past decade. And even those players who at one time looked like they were going to develop into top talents (Ex. Devin Gardner and Devin Funchess, etc.) had huge consistency issues.

To me, this is where the program is about to change. Player development, getting the most out of the individual player. Michigan has to be able to develop a very high percentage of their players. While Alabama can play the numbers game, Michigan can’t.

Okay, here is a prediction, which of course I have been wrong in the past. But the Michigan running game will be back in 2015. One could argue we started running the ball better late last year, but when you go back an watch the tapes, you realize we did run the better in terms of yardage, but we just had a rough time being successful on 3rd and 3 or less.

Our wide receiver crew is going to be interesting to watch next year. Some are anticipating finally seeing Drake Harris healthy, but a name to watch in spring, Moe Ways. He may see major snaps next year.

National Signing Day is today and a lot needs to happen for Michigan to land the fifteen to seventeen scholarship prospects that they have available for this 2015 recruiting class.

Michigan has nine recruits at this time with Brian Cole (WR/S), Alex Malzone (QB) already on campus along with Andrew David (K), Tyree Kinnel (DB), Grant Newsome (OL), Jon Runyan Jr. (OL), Reuben Jones (DE), Zach Gentry (QB), and Nolan Ulizio (OL). Adding Perry would make ten commits and would leave signing day very interesting knowing that possible five more recruits could sign with Michigan.

How many surprises will we see today? Well check back all day long for up to the minute coverage of the 2015 Michigan football recruiting.
