Michigan Wolverine Recruiting: Zach Gentry Visiting Harbaugh and Michigan
Zach Gentry got a visit from Jim Harbaugh earlier in the week and now is currently on a official visit at Michigan. The Texas Longhorns is where Gentry was committed to since May of 2014 and was told by the Texas coaches that he would be the only quarterback recruit for the 2015 class when he visited them and committed to them on his only other official visit in November.
Well it broke that Kyler Murray, a Texas A&M commit (committed May of 2014) showed a Texas #1 jersey on his twitter account Wednesday and later we found out that he was actually in Austin, Texas visiting the University of Texas on a very hush-hush visit.

Zach Gentry planned a visit to Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Texas coaches asked for a in-home visit before he goes to Michigan, but it seems by reports that Gentry canceling his in-home visit with the Texas staff. Seems the Texas coaches are already moving on or getting the feeling that Gentry will no longer be in this recruiting class as they started visiting Florida State’s quarterback commit Kai Locksley.

Gentry has offers from programs such as Alabama, Arizona State, Nebraska, Northwestern, TCU, Tennessee, and several other smaller schools.
The big hangup in this matter is that the Texas coaches told Gentry that he was their only quarterback recruit, but at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh already has a recruit on campus Alex Malzone who enrolled at Michigan already. So fans might be wondering what is the difference? Well you can look at it two ways in which one is the Texas coaches lied to the recruit and bringing in another prospect and trying to keep the lid on it or you could say that Jim Harbaugh is going after the quarterback prospect that he wanted. Right now Michigan had four quarterbacks on scholarship, but it isn’t sure if Russell Bellomy will be back or not. Might depend if the Michigan coaches can land another quarterback in this recruiting class.
Many experts believe that Gentry and Michigan make a good fit and likely could be the first commit for Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines this weekend. Tom Lemming stated that Gentry would give the Wolverines just the type of quarterback they want.
In our opinion, Zach Gentry would be a very good addition who is a tall pocket passer with a plus arm, nice tight throwing motion, and good accuracy. He is a good overall athletic ability, his basketball film is very good and would guess he is a MAC level basketball type player. The only negative with his game right now is that he throws almost completely with his arm. Once he learns to use his lower body his velocity and ball rotation will improve.
After watching his film, one name kept popping into our thoughts and that is former Michigan football player Ryan Mallett. Same size, throws off his back foot, uses arm only, and tends to guide the ball instead of zipping it.

Interesting note, Gentry did list Texas on his twitter account as being committed to Texas. Well that is no longer the case and a little side note the last three people that Zach is following on twitter just happen to be Jim Harbaugh, Jedd Fisch (WR/QB Coach — Passing Game Coordinator), and Tim Drevno (OC/OL Coach — Offensive Coordinator. Also he is following Chris Clark who is the #1 tight end target for the Wolverines that is visiting UCLA this weekend after visiting Michigan last weekend.
There is less that two weeks left before national signing day for football is February 4, 2015 and a lot needs to happen for Michigan to land the fifteen to seventeen scholarship prospects in the next two weeks that they have available for this 2015 recruiting class.
Michigan currently has six recruits at this time with Brian Cole (WR/S), Alex Malzone (QB) already on campus along with Andrew David (K), Tyree Kinnel (DB), Grant Newsome (OL), and Jon Runyan Jr. (OL). There have been rumors of a possible commit during the basketball game Saturday night, but seems to be more wishful thinking than anything else at this time or a recruiting site trying to get the edge on everybody else.
