Michigan Football — Wolverine Spring Practice Report — Stuff from Coach’s Clinic
Here is a small sample from the message board post.
For those that might have missed our special Thursday night chat here are some of the things we discussed.
Well just to let people know first hand information from our site actually means first hand information that means that we are there. Not “others” first hand information where they get it from a person who passes it on to a person who passes it on to somebody else to post.
Coach Borges started out with a walk through of using the slip screen and variations off of it.
Russell Bellomy #8 was in shorts and his practice jersey. No word on why he was out, but was able to throw in a couple of drills that were in the range of 5-10 yards.
Clinic Notes:
Was the largest coach’s clinic on a Thursday practice since we have been going for the past 5-6 years. Was a good size amount of coaches at this event on Thursday. Seemed like a lot of interest in the program and see what happens when you win football games, have positive approach on and off the field.
Darrell Funk talked about effective methods of improving pass protection. As we talked last year we are very impressed with Coach Funk not only as a coach, but also as a speaker and teacher. He really explains things very well and seems to really try and make each player better in every snap. This isn’t a strike against the previous staff because we liked Coach Frey as well and thought he was the best assistant coach on that staff, but we believe Coach Funk is a upgrade here.
Curt Mallory talked about quarter technique and DB fundamentals. He seems to have really grown and is feeling more comfortable with the players he is working around. That could probably be said for all the coaches since most were only around a few weeks while spring practices were going on last year.
Jerry Montgomery talked about pass rush techniques and fundamentals. He is a very good coach and gets overlooked because of Coach Hoke and Coach Mattison and their roles with the defensive line. Really teaches techniques and making sure the players are getting after it no matter if it is in a scrimmage atmosphere or working against practice dummies/pads.
Jeff Hecklinski talked about WR blocking and also 1on1 press release.
